  • Our Framework

The GJMEC Framework provides an impactful and effective learning experience in six (6) major life areas of impact; mental, social, spiritual, physical, financial, and legacy.
  • Mental

Adolescents have begun to transition from concrete thinking to operational thinking. According to Jean Piaget (a Psychologist who formed the theory of cognitive development), adolescents can demonstrate the ability to critically analyze situations, taking into consideration reasoning and argument. (Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development – Wikipedia). GJMEC encourages healthy cognitive development by providing forums that inspires adolescents to share ideas and thoughts; to think independently; to set personal goals etc.
  • Social

Adolescents continually experience change. Their social development is new, challenging, and often independent of parental input. Issues regarding peer pressure, social media, and even relationships can be stressful. GJMEC helps adolescents gain the skills needed to engage in and maintain positive long-lasting relationships.
  • Spiritual

The question of spirituality often eludes adolescents; however, there is a growing awareness of the importance of spiritual development among adolescents without relegating all things spiritual to the domain of faith-based practices (Benson, Roehlkepartain & Rude, 2003; Crawford, M., & Rossiter, G., 2006; Hay, D., & Nye, R., 1998/2006; Yust, K.M., Johnson, A.N., Sasso, S.E., & Roehlkepartain, 2006). Gems & Jewels offers a framework for spiritual development that is based on helping the adolescent answer four questions: (1) Do I love myself? (2) Do I like myself? (3) Do I respect myself? (4) Do I care about myself? In doing so, adolescents will awaken to a process of self-discovery.
  • Physical

According to Physical Activity Guideline for Americans, more than 80% of adolescents do not do enough aerobic physical activity to meet the national guidelines for physical activities in youth (2008). GJMEC encourages adolescents to take the initiative for self-physical health by offering workshops and seminars that help the student/client evaluate overall physical health; ways to take care of the body; discussions on the reality of diabetes, hypertension, cancer, etc. as well as good nutrition.
